Nizhny Novgorod transforms its central streets with bold urban upgrades
Nizhny Novgorod is upgrading its central streets to create a more unified look. Recent renovations on Volodarsky Street are almost finished, while Akademika Blokhina Street has also seen improvements. The city plans to continue similar projects next year.
Work on Volodarsky Street, between Semaško and Ošarskaya, is in its final stages. The pedestrian walkways, curbstones, and road surface are now complete. Contractors are currently adding road markings and installing new signs.
The renovations focus on blending architecture, layout, and unique local features with modern infrastructure. Convenient sidewalks, smoother roads, decorative elements, and greenery have been introduced. Akademika Blokhina Street has undergone similar upgrades, though details on the exact contractors remain unclear.
Varvarskaya Street was fully restored in 2021, setting a standard for future projects. Beyond main roads, 18 residential courtyards in the Sormovo District were improved in 2025. The city administration and municipal services, such as Dornii, oversee these efforts, selecting contractors through public procurement.
The ongoing renovations aim to refresh Nizhny Novgorod’s central streets with a consistent design. More upgrades are scheduled for next year, building on the recent work. The changes include better walkways, road quality, and aesthetic enhancements across key areas.
