Nizhny Novgorod unveils bold new design code for its iconic Volga embankments
Nizhny Novgorod has approved a new design code for its Upper and Lower Volga Embankments. The rules will shape how public spaces, lighting, and trading kiosks appear along the riverfront. Officials aim to create a more organised and visually cohesive waterfront area.
The project covers two key sections of the embankments. On the Upper Volga, changes will stretch from the Chkalov Staircase to Senaya Square. On the Lower Volga, the transformation will extend from the same staircase to the Kanavinsky Bridge.
The updated design code brings clear regulations for lighting, signage, and trading kiosks. These changes will apply to both the Upper and Lower Volga Embankments. City officials will oversee the implementation to maintain the embankments’ new aesthetic standards.
