Nizhny Novgorod’s Crystal Palace opening delayed to 2025 over paperwork

The opening of Nizhny Novgorod’s new Crystal Palace on Strelka has been delayed until early next year. Governor Gleb Nikitin confirmed the postponement, citing unfinished documentation as the main reason. Despite being 99% complete, the arena still requires final approvals before it can welcome visitors.

Construction of the Crystal Palace began under a concession agreement signed in 2022 with Ice Palace LLC, a branch of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Development Corporation. Originally budgeted at 15 billion rubles, the project’s cost has since climbed to over 22.9 billion rubles.

The Crystal Palace remains on hold until all paperwork and inspections are finalised. When opened, it will become a key venue for professional and amateur sports in the region. The project’s rising costs and ongoing adjustments reflect its scale and importance to Nizhny Novgorod.
