Nizhny Novgorod’s metro extension faces two more years of delays

Construction on Nizhny Novgorod’s metro extension has faced further delays, pushing back the opening of two key stations by another year. The project, valued at 35.5 billion rubles, includes three new stops, but only one has seen significant progress so far.

The latest schedule confirms that Sennaya and Ploshchad Svobody stations will now open at the end of 2027. Both were initially set to launch in late 2025 before being postponed to 2026. Meanwhile, work on Sormovskaya—the third station—has yet to begin, with completion now expected in December 2029.

The revised timeline means passengers will wait until at least late 2027 to use Sennaya and Ploshchad Svobody. Sormovskaya’s completion is not expected until December 2029. Construction and funding remain in place, but the project’s phased rollout has stretched over several more years than originally planned.
