Nizhny Novgorod’s New Program Bridges Veterans and Local Government
A new training initiative called Heroes of Nizhny Novgorod Region officially launched on August 4, 2025. The programme aims to help veterans and participants of the special military operation find roles within the local government. It also includes educational outreach, with recent events held in schools across the region.
The programme brought together 60 participants for its first cohort, including veterans, community leaders, and humanitarian workers. An additional 30 spots were set aside for the next group.
In December 2025, veterans and volunteers took part in Lessons of Courage, visiting 13 schools and colleges in Nizhny Novgorod. The sessions coincided with Heroes of the Fatherland Day on December 9, forming part of the broader Heroes of the Motherland project.
Among the speakers were Ivan Petrov and Anna Smirnova, who shared their experiences with students. Stanislav Sobolkin addressed pupils at School No. 129, while Alexander Mologachev spoke at School No. 79. Elena Amosova, Deputy Minister of Personnel Policy, highlighted how these meetings help young people understand the contributions of veterans.
The Heroes of Nizhny Novgorod Region programme continues to expand, offering employment opportunities and educational engagement. By connecting veterans with schools, organisers aim to strengthen ties between military personnel and the wider community.
