Nizhny Novgorod's TOS Turns 30, Inspiring Local Engagement Nationwide
Nizhny Novgorod's public self-governance system, known as TOS, celebrated its 30th anniversary. With 61 councils in operation, TOS has been fostering dialogue between authorities and residents, addressing local issues, and even inspiring projects like Ulyanovsk's 'Uncle Kolya’s Museum'.
TOS's impact is evident in various initiatives. In Nizhny Novgorod, it's involved in neighborhood improvement, the 'You Decide!' initiative, maintaining public order, providing humanitarian aid, organizing courtyard festivals, and expanding community centers. Recently, an online meeting was held to discuss the work of local TOS bodies in municipal districts, involving nine cities, including Nizhny Novgorod.
One notable project outside Nizhny Novgorod is Ulyanovsk's 'Uncle Kolya’s Museum'. This unique space allows visitors to explore the Soviet cinema era and contribute to its collection. Inspired by TOS's success, discussions have begun to officially recognize a professional holiday for TOS workers across Russia.
TOS in Nizhny Novgorod, with its 61 active councils, has been a driving force for local engagement and development for three decades. Its influence extends beyond the city, inspiring projects and discussions about official recognition for TOS workers nationwide.
