NLRB Struggles During Shutdown as Union Resignations Face Fines

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is facing staffing limitations during the shutdown, impacting its ability to process unfair labor practice charges. Meanwhile, a complaint has been filed against the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 926, alleging threats of fines against employees who resigned their memberships.

Four employees of an Atlanta-area construction company recently resigned from their union memberships. However, they claim they were misled into believing union membership was mandatory. The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation has stepped in, filing a complaint against the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 926.

The complaint alleges that the union is threatening these employees with fines for their decision to resign. Despite the NLRB being closed during the shutdown, the complaint was filed through fax and mail. Unfortunately, due to the limited staff operating, the processing of these charges has been impacted.

The NLRB continues to face challenges during the shutdown, affecting its ability to address unfair labor practice charges. The complaint against the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 926 awaits processing, with allegations of misled employees and threats of fines for those who resigned their memberships.
