Only the humble birds of the sky were given the green light, provided the winds played ball. The airspace closure triggered quite the kerfuffle, affecting these 24 flights and some 4,000 passengers. Earlier whispers hinted that no less than 12 arrivals and 12 departures hit a snag. Some flights were diverted to Frankfurt/Hahn, adding an unexpected detour to the travel plans for many.
Sources indicate that amid the upheaval, five aircraft were redirected to touch down at Frankfurt/Hahn and Stuttgart airports. The weary passengers were then loaded like cargo onto buses, destined for their ultimate destinations.
