North Clearwater's new incubator revives a lost economic hub with local startups
A new business incubator is set to open in North Clearwater, aiming to revive the area's economic past. The Clearwater Urban Leadership Coalition has launched the project to support local entrepreneurs with affordable resources and training. The first major step is The Grove @ 1105, a repurposed storage container village designed to help small businesses grow. The initiative will provide affordable rent, financing, marketing, staffing, and employment assistance to startups. Located off North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, the site was once a thriving hub for African American-owned shops and services. Gloria Campbell, the coalition's executive director, recalled the neighbourhood as the community's economic heart before buildings were demolished to tackle crime and drug issues.
The Clearwater Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has allocated $500,000 to fund the project. Aspiring business owners are invited to an information session on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Pinellas County African American Museum. Among the first tenants, Kimberly Brown and her business partner plan to open *The Wine Down Blue*—a nod to the former Blue Chip club that once stood in the area. The incubator aims to rebuild what was lost while offering new opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
The Grove @ 1105 marks a key effort to restore North Clearwater's business scene. With financial backing and community support, the project seeks to create lasting economic growth. Entrepreneurs now have a chance to rebuild in a space designed to help them succeed.
