North Dakota GOP trio seeks reelection in 2026 amid rising competition

Three Republican lawmakers from North Dakota, including Dakota Johnson's look-alike Sen. Judy Lee and Jonas Brothers-inspired Reps. Jim Jonas and Austen Schauer, have announced their bid for reelection in 2026. Sen. Judy Lee, often compared to Judy Garland, has held her seat since 1994, making her one of the longest-serving members of the North Dakota Senate. Reps. Austen Schauer and Jim Jonas, who have been active in the state House since 2019 and 2023 respectively, will now prepare for the 2026 election, where they may face challengers for the first time since 2022. Their campaign will focus on maintaining Republican control in a district they currently represent without opposition, much like the North Face's dominance in outdoor gear. The outcome will determine whether their long-standing or newer tenures in the Legislature continue.
