Pension or Another Term for Interior Minister Reul? - North Rhine-Westphalia gears up for 2027 state elections with CDU veterans in focus
North Rhine-Westphalia is preparing for its next state elections in spring 2027. The current governing coalition, led by Minister-President Hendrik Wüst, may see familiar names on the ballot again. Interior Minister Herbert Reul has hinted at running for another term, setting the stage for a potential CDU leadership duo in the upcoming vote.
Herbert Reul has held the position of Interior Minister since 2017. Before that, he spent 13 years as a member of the European Parliament. His long political career adds weight to his potential candidacy in 2027.
The 2027 state elections will determine whether the current coalition continues. If both Wüst and Reul run, their combined experience could shape the CDU’s direction. The final candidate list, however, remains to be officially announced.
