North Rhine-Westphalia launches bold anti-knife violence campaign in public spaces

North Rhine-Westphalia has launched a new campaign to tackle knife crime in public spaces. Interior Minister Herbert Reul unveiled the initiative, titled 'Combating Knife Violence in Public Spaces', as part of a wider ten-point plan. The campaign aims to reduce the number of knives carried on streets and raise awareness of the risks they pose.

The centrepiece of the campaign is a poster series with the slogan 'Better Without Knives', displayed across digital advertising boards. These posters appear in cities, refugee centres, immigration offices, and police stations throughout the region. To reach a broader audience, the message is printed in nine different languages.

The initiative combines public awareness with law enforcement actions. Posters, multilingual flyers, and increased police checks form the core of the strategy. Officials hope these steps will reduce knife-related crimes and improve safety across North Rhine-Westphalia.
