North Rhine-Westphalia’s chimney sweeps see leadership shake-up in 2026
Several changes are coming to North Rhine-Westphalia’s authorised district chimney sweeps at the start of 2026. New appointments, retirements, and reappointments will take effect on January 1, affecting districts across the region. These professionals handle key duties like heating inspections and flue maintenance under state law.
In Gelsenkirchen, Sven Hansen will take over District 10, marking his first role as an authorised district chimney sweep. He replaces Udo Schädlich, who has managed the district since 1996 and will retire on December 31, 2025.
In Steinfurt County, Daniel Brunsmann of Heek will succeed his father, Franz-Josef Brunsmann, as the sweep for District 17. Meanwhile, Ingo Hüsing will continue managing District 46 in the same county. Both will begin their terms on January 1, 2026.
Coesfeld will see a change as Ralph Kröger takes over District 22 from Guido Klöpper, who is also retiring at the end of 2025. Dirk Kerkhoff of Raesfeld will remain in charge of District 29 in Borken County, having held the position since 2019. Raphael Kockmann will likewise continue overseeing District 20 in Münster after reapplying.
No details are available on who currently manages District 19 in Recklinghausen County or when the position began.
Chimney sweeps play a vital role in climate protection by ensuring heating systems meet emissions standards. Their inspections help reduce CO₂ output, supporting broader environmental policies.
The Münster District Government and the Münster Chimney Sweep Guild have acknowledged the transitions. Philipp Esser, the department head, and Andreas Marschan, guild master, congratulated those appointed and retiring. The changes will ensure continuity in inspections and maintenance across the affected districts.
