North Rhine-Westphalia’s schools crumble as principals demand urgent repairs

A new survey has revealed serious concerns about the state of school buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia. Many principals report crumbling infrastructure, with most schools lacking barrier-free access and urgent repairs going unfunded. The findings highlight widespread dissatisfaction with learning conditions across the region.

The survey, carried out by Forsa for the Verband Bildung und Erziehung (VBE), included 1,312 school principals nationwide. In North Rhine-Westphalia, 263 principals took part, painting a grim picture of school facilities.

The survey results underline the scale of the problem in North Rhine-Westphalia’s schools. With most buildings in need of urgent repairs and funding in short supply, principals face an uphill battle to improve conditions. The VBE has called for greater investment to address the growing crisis in school infrastructure.
