NPP's Agyapong Launches Presidential Bid, Plans Agricultural Revolution
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared his candidacy for the party's presidential nomination. Agyapong, a businessman and MP for Assin Central, aims to transform Ghana's economy and reduce its reliance on foreign aid.
Agyapong believes his presidency will stimulate job creation and economic growth. He plans to achieve this by relocating the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to Tamale, the capital of Ghana's Northern Region. This strategic move aims to utilise the region's vast agricultural potential and agro-processing industries for sustainable development and economic self-sufficiency.
Tamale, with its strategic location and the Tamale Airport, will serve as a hub for direct vegetable exports to Europe. Agyapong envisions produce reaching international markets within a day, boosting the region's economy and reducing Ghana's dependence on external financial institutions like the IMF and World Bank.
Agyapong's candidacy, announced on May 30, 2023, brings a focus on agricultural transformation and economic diversification. If elected, he plans to relocate the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to Tamale, aiming to create jobs, grow the economy, and reduce Ghana's reliance on foreign aid.
