Offenbach cities unite against Frankfurt Airport’s noisy landing plan

Several cities in the Offenbach district, including Offenbach, Neu-Isenburg, Rodgau, and Dreieich, have united in opposition to Frankfurt Airport's planned 'Segmented Approach' landing procedure. They have passed resolutions urging regulatory authorities to reject the plan due to fears of increased noise pollution and detrimental effects on residents' quality of life.

The municipalities, supported by mayors Dirk Gene Hagelstein of Neu-Isenburg and Tobias Wilbrand of Egelsbach, argue that the procedure fails to reduce aircraft noise. Instead, it shifts the burden to new residential areas without adequate soundproofing. They criticize the lack of protection for newly affected areas and the violation of principles of legitimate expectation.

In the upcoming meeting of the Aircraft Noise Commission, the participating representatives intend to reject the procedure. The cities maintain that a transparent, legally sound, and holistic noise protection strategy is essential to address all relevant noise sources and avoid one-sided displacements. Multiple cities in the Offenbach district, including Hainburg, Heusenstamm, Obertshausen, Rodgau, and Seligenstadt, have jointly opposed the plan. Heusenstamm's mayor, Steffen Ball, has stated that the introduction of the 'Segmented Approach' is rejected on grounds of noise protection, legitimate expectation, and social and regional equity.

The cities in the Offenbach district call on the responsible authorities to abandon the 'Segmented Approach' and demand a comprehensive strategy addressing all sources of traffic noise. They aim to protect their residents' quality of life and ensure fair noise protection measures.
