Offenbach doubles sidewalk repair funding to €700,000 this year
Offenbach has doubled its funding for sidewalk repairs this year, allocating €700,000 for roads, bike paths, and pavements. The city has already completed work on 2,000 square metres of sidewalks, matching last year’s total, with more projects planned for Schubertstraße and Bleichstraße.
The Civil Engineering Division of Stadtservice received €84,000 specifically to fix damage caused by tree roots. A recent meeting between finance chief Martin Wilhelm and Melanie Gessner, director of the Civil Engineering Division at Stadtwerke Offenbach, focused on planning further renewals.
Bieberer Straße was chosen as a priority due to its high foot traffic, particularly on match days for OFC home games. The repairs there have now finished, and the main construction site has moved to the B448, heading toward Stadion am Bieberer Berg. Work on the latest section wrapped up by last Friday.
An unnamed construction firm was contracted to handle the 2,000 square metres of repairs. The city’s framework service agreement with Stadtwerke ensures ongoing funding for infrastructure improvements.
With twice the usual budget available, Offenbach aims to address more sidewalk issues across the city. Additional projects on Schubertstraße and Bleichstraße will follow, ensuring safer and smoother paths for pedestrians.
