Ofterschwang's 2026 mayoral race opens without an incumbent for the first time
Ofterschwang will hold its mayoral election on March 8, 2026, with polling stations open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The vote follows a long period under Alois Ried, who has served as mayor since 2002 and was last re-elected in 2020 with overwhelming support.
The upcoming election comes after Ried's landslide victory in 2020, when he secured 92.21 percent of the vote. This time, however, no candidates or nominees have been publicly announced for the 2026 race.
The town council election in 2020 saw the Ofterschwang Voters' Association as the only group fielding candidates, with 28 names on the ballot. The top 14 vote-getters won seats on the council.
For the mayoral race, the winner must receive over 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate achieves this, a runoff will take place on March 22. Election results will be shown in a live graphic once tallied and officially announced.
The election marks the first mayoral contest in years without an incumbent running. Residents will decide whether a new leader emerges or if further voting is needed. The outcome will shape Ofterschwang's local government for the next term.
