At the bottom of the image on the ground there is a person running. Behind that person there are many people standing and also there are boxes. There are railings. Behind them there are banners with text on it. Behind the banners there are many people sitting. There are few people with hats on their heads. And also there are holding flags. In between them there is railing. And also there is a watermark.

Omar Abdullah Calls for Jammu and Kashmir Statehood Restoration

Omar Abdullah, the leader of the National Conference party in Jammu and Kashmir, has recently spoken about the political situation in the region. He stated that the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has the authority to decide on certain bills. Meanwhile, Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister and president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has linked her party's support for private member bills in the Assembly to the Rajya Sabha polls.

Abdullah's government has reassured the public that it will not obstruct any pro-people legislation. This commitment comes as the Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has repeatedly promised to restore full governance to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. This promise was made after the region lost its special status in August 2019 and was directly placed under the central government's control. The BJP had made this a central election promise, particularly for the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh legislative assembly elections in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Abdullah's government has also kept its promises regarding the Darbar Move and changes to reservation policies. Abdullah argued that restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir would resolve many problems and empower the elected government. In addition, the school education department has regularised the services of 860 low-paid employees, a move that is expected to improve the quality of education in the region.

Abdullah has reiterated his call for the restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the BJP's promises to return governance to the region, the central government has not yet held free elections for a local government. The situation remains politically contentious, with local parties and international organizations calling for the restoration of democratic rights and the transfer of power to the local population.
