Ombudsman Team Marks 10 Years of AEO Improvements
The Ombudsman Team for the Oberfranken Anchor Center (AEO) has been instrumental in advocating for residents since its establishment in 2012. Comprising various local organizations, the team recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of dedicated service and improvements at the AEO.
Initially formed by a city council resolution, the team's work evolved over the years. In 2017, they prioritized developing a protection plan, including the establishment of a women’s shelter on the AEO premises. By 2025, they revisited long-standing issues such as the lack of lockable apartments and the need for enhanced psychosocial support for residents.
The team's spokesperson, Peter Ehmann, recently thanked members for their persistent and courageous commitment. Their collaborative approach with AEO staff has led to significant improvements. In 2018, the team advocated for relocating residents with disabilities to more suitable accommodations. In autumn 2022, the AEO's peak occupancy reached 2,800 people, and Caritas introduced an asylum procedure counseling service (AVB) to support the growing population. Additionally, Caritas launched a new parent-child group for children aged two to six in 2020.
Throughout its history, the Ombudsman Team has consistently worked to improve the living conditions and support services at the AEO. Their efforts have been crucial in addressing the needs of a diverse and growing resident population. Looking ahead, the team, now led by spokesperson Wolfgang Völkel, continues to strive for a better AEO, ensuring that residents' voices are heard and their well-being is prioritized.
