Omsk bids farewell to former mayor Viktor Shreider in solemn memorial

A memorial service for Viktor Shreider, the former mayor of Omsk, is taking place today, March 12. The 74-year-old passed away on March 10, and city officials, colleagues, and allies have gathered to pay their respects.

The ceremony is being attended by prominent figures from Omsk's political and business circles. Current Mayor Sergei Sheles, First Deputy Governor Dmitry Ushakov, and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Valery Boyko are among those present. State Duma lawmaker and former mayor Oksana Fadina, along with Viktor Gasheev, Director of the Mayor's Office Information Policy Department, have also joined the service.

Former Omsk mayor Vyacheslav Dvorakovsky, ex-Director of the Culture Department Vladimir Shalak, and businessman Sergei Morev are in attendance as well. Members of Shreider's administrative team, including former First Deputy Mayor Vladimir Potapov and ex-Director of the Finance Department Bogdan Masan, are participating in the event. Dmitry Krikoryants, the former Sports Minister and current acting Director of the Siberian State Olympic Reserve School, is also there. Notably absent from the service is Leonid Polezhaev, Omsk's first governor. The memorial will continue until 1:00 PM, after which Shreider will be laid to rest at the Old Northern Memorial Cemetery.

The service brings together a wide range of city and regional leaders to honour Shreider's legacy. Following the ceremony, his burial will take place at the Old Northern Memorial Cemetery. The event marks the final farewell to a figure who played a significant role in Omsk's administration.
