Önder Karaca takes helm of Saxony-Anhalt's pharmacy advocacy group

The Saxony-Anhalt Pharmacists' Association (LAV) has named Önder Karaca as its new managing director. The 50-year-old lawyer took up the position after serving briefly as head of operations. He replaces Matthias Clasen, who previously led the organisation in advocating for pharmacy interests across the state.

Karaca officially joined the LAV in early October 2023. His first role involved overseeing day-to-day operations before stepping into the managing director position. Before this, he spent years at ThyssenKrupp, where he worked as a human resources director specialising in labour relations and employee co-determination.

In 2022, Karaca moved to Leipzig for family reasons and took a sabbatical to care for his two children. His professional background includes legal practice, having qualified as a lawyer in 2004 with a focus on labour law.

Karaca has spoken about the appeal of his new role, particularly the chance to represent pharmacists' interests and create long-term benefits for both pharmacies and patients.

The transition follows Clasen's tenure, during which the LAV actively promoted pharmacy concerns in Saxony-Anhalt. Karaca now leads the association with a mix of legal expertise and management experience. His priorities include supporting pharmacies and ensuring patient needs remain central to the organisation's work.
