Opening the world to Córdoba: Two local pilots make history with Vueling's first landing in the city
In an exciting development for aviation enthusiasts and residents of Córdoba, two local pilots, José Jiménez and Antonio José Rodríguez, are set to open a key route between Barcelona and Córdoba.
Both pilots, hailing from Aguilar de la Frontera and Almedinilla respectively, have over 20 years of experience as commercial pilots. Jiménez started flying in 1998 after being a PE teacher for seven years, while Rodríguez obtained his private pilot license before he even got his driver's license at the age of 17.
The first landing of an A-320 in the history of the Córdoba Airport will be made today, with a 7,000-ton aircraft and 186 passengers on board. The runway at Córdoba Airport, measuring 2,100 meters, is slightly shorter than that of Bilbao's 2,300 meters.
José Jiménez considers piloting the first flight between Barcelona and Córdoba as a "huge dream come true." Rodríguez views opening a route to their city as a "win-win," an honor, and a joy. Both pilots prefer the conditions of Córdoba Airport over larger airports like JFK in New York or Tokyo.
The new Vueling route places Córdoba at a scale of the rest of the world. With the addition of other companies' destinations that operate El Prat, the new route will reach nearly 200 destinations. Vueling allows connecting with 105 worldwide destinations, mainly in Europe and North Africa.
As the day of the historic flight approaches, Rodríguez is particularly focused on the landing at Córdoba Airport, which he considers the final touch. Meanwhile, José Jiménez's mother will be waiting for him at the terminal to give him a kiss before he returns to Barcelona.
José Jiménez and Antonio José Rodríguez have previously flown together until 2014. The search results do not provide the names of the other pilots working with them for the first Vueling flight on the Barcelona-Córdoba route.
The new route is not just a milestone for the two pilots, but also for Vueling as a company. With the addition of this route, the company will be able to offer even more opportunities for travel and connection. As the plane takes off from Barcelona and lands in Córdoba, it marks a new chapter in aviation history for these two local pilots and the city of Córdoba.
