Orbán and Vučić strengthen ties over energy and Serbia’s EU accession

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Szabadka (Subotica) in Serbia for high-level talks with President Aleksandar Vučić. The meeting focused on energy security, regional cooperation, and Serbia’s ongoing EU accession process. Both leaders also addressed a joint press conference during the visit.

Orbán and Vučić met to discuss urgent regional challenges, particularly Serbia’s energy concerns. Russia’s continued stake in Serbia’s only oil refinery has delayed its sale, forcing Belgrade to seek support from Budapest. Vučić acknowledged Hungary’s long-standing assistance on political, financial, and EU-related matters.

The talks reinforced ties between Hungary and Serbia, with concrete steps taken on energy infrastructure and regional cooperation. Serbia’s reliance on Hungarian support for EU accession and economic stability remains a key focus. Both sides committed to ongoing dialogue as regional pressures evolve.
