Airbus Dominates Paris Airshow, Boeing Faces Setbacks
Trade Fair Orders Secured by Airbus - Boeing Fails to Secure Any Deals - Orders are being secured by Airbus at the trade show, while Boeing's booth remains emptied.
Step aside, Boeing - Airbus is taking off! The 2025 Paris Aerospace Show saw European aircraft manufacturer Airbus steal the spotlight, outperforming its US rival in a big way. While Boeing was left empty-handedly dealing with the aftermath of a 787 Dreamliner crash, Airbus secured a massive number of orders and deals.
From Monday through Thursday, Airbus, along with its customers, announced a whopping 250+ aircraft orders, some already previously announced or booked. Boeing, on the other hand, failed to make any big commercial deals at the show.
A major highlight of Airbus's success came from Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia's new state-owned airline, placing a firm order for 25 Airbus A350-1000s - the largest model in Airbus's catalog since the retirement of the double-decker A380. Other deals came from Vietjet, Vietnam, for 100 aircraft and Poland's national airline, Lot, ordering 40 Airbus A220s.
While the Aerospace Show is usually a battleground between Airbus and Boeing, this time around, it seemed Boeing took a back seat. Industry headwinds such as ongoing supply chain disruptions, geopolitical tensions, and the recent air tragedy, combined with a more cautious approach from Boeing, created a subdued atmosphere, favoring Airbus's proactive strategy.
Airbus capitalized on the moment by closing numerous significant deals, even securing new first-time customers at the show. Meanwhile, Boeing executives kept a low profile and limited their presence to a few orders with ANA Holdings of Japan.
All in all, it was a strong showing for Airbus at the Paris Airshow, with the manufacturer demonstrating its ability to deliver even in challenging industry conditions. Boeing, on the other hand, may need to reassess its strategies to bounce back and compete alongside Airbus in future shows.
