Orkla Eesti sells Põltsamaa factory to Svensky Kaubanduse AS
Orkla Eesti has sold its Põltsamaa factory and brand to Svensky Kaubanduse AS, a long-established Estonian company. The deal will allow Orkla to focus on its main product lines while ensuring production continues at the site. All existing jobs will transfer to the new owner under the agreement. The decision to sell came as Orkla Eesti looked to streamline operations and concentrate on core business areas. Kaido Kaare, the company's Estonian head, stressed that finding a buyer committed to maintaining production was the key concern. Svensky Kaubanduse AS, with over 30 years in wholesale, manufacturing, and logistics, stepped in to take over the brand and factory.
The transaction was supported by PwC Tallinn and Ellex Legal, who handled the legal and financial aspects. Under the terms, Svensky will take full control of the Põltsamaa site by the end of April. Sven Voites, leading Svensky, has outlined plans to develop both the factory's output and the Põltsamaa brand in the long run.
Orkla will still source products from Põltsamaa through a partnership deal, though the sale itself remains subject to approval by the Estonian Competition Authority. The handover will see all current employees retain their positions under Svensky's ownership. Production at Põltsamaa is set to continue without interruption, while Orkla shifts its focus to strategic product groups. The finalisation of the deal depends on regulatory clearance from Estonian authorities.
