Osteoporosis Interactive Workshop

On May 10, Schön Klinik Neustadt invites everyone to an informative session on osteoporosis. The event, titled "Understanding Osteoporosis. And why waiting isn't an option," will take place at Am Kiebitzberg 10, Neustadt in Holstein, from 10 to 11 am.

This session is open to those living with osteoporosis, their relatives, and anyone interested in adopting a bone-healthy lifestyle. Dr. Andrzej Hoffmann, Senior Physician of the Spine Surgery Clinic, will emphasize the importance of taking action when it comes to bone health.

The focus of the event is on understanding and managing osteoporosis. Participants can expect to learn about the medical backgrounds of osteoporosis, as well as practical strategies for prevention and management.

One key aspect of the session will be demonstrations of fitness exercises designed to strengthen bones. These exercises, which include weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening activities, are essential for building and maintaining bone density and improving balance to reduce fall risk.

In addition, participants will learn about the importance of a balanced diet in maintaining bone health. Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D, through diet and supplements, is crucial for supporting bone health and enabling calcium absorption.

The session will also touch upon lifestyle modifications, such as quitting smoking and limiting alcohol intake, which are linked to increased bone loss and fracture risk. Regular bone density screenings will also be discussed, as they are essential for detecting early signs of osteoporosis and guiding timely intervention.

Furthermore, fall prevention measures will be addressed, particularly for older adults. These measures include keeping living spaces free of tripping hazards, using assistive devices, and engaging in balance exercises like tai chi.

Finally, the session will highlight the importance of medical treatments in managing osteoporosis, especially when bone loss is established or fracture risk is high. These treatments complement lifestyle and dietary interventions.

Gaining knowledge about bone health is crucial, as age-related bone loss accelerates over time, starting at age 35. Early action is important in managing bone health, as osteoporosis is not inevitable if proactive steps are taken. Those affected by bone loss can significantly contribute to its stability through knowledge, exercise, and diet.

Attendance at this event is free, and no registration is required. Join Schön Klinik Neustadt on May 10 to learn more about osteoporosis and how to maintain bone health.
