Ostholstein Unemployment Drops to Lowest 2025 Level in October
The autumn recovery has brought good news to the district, with unemployment reaching its lowest level of the year in October 2025. A total of 14,610 people were registered as unemployed, marking a decrease of 194 individuals (-1.3 percent) from the previous month.
The unemployment rate in Ostholstein remained stable at 4.4 percent, a 0.2 percentage point improvement compared to October 2024. In the Ostholstein district, unemployment decreased by 11 individuals (-0.2 percent) from September and by 212 (-4.2 percent) compared to the previous year. Notably, the Jobcenter (SGB II) area saw a particularly strong decrease in unemployment, with a 11.4 percent drop compared to the previous year, indicating attractive job opportunities for experienced professionals, career changers, and re-entrants. Meanwhile, in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, unemployment decreased by 183 (-1.8 percent) from September but increased by 308 (+3.2 percent) compared to October 2024, with an unemployment rate of 8.2 percent.
Despite a slight increase in unemployment in the district compared to October 2024, the overall trend shows improvement. Job vacancies and employment levels remain high, with many industries actively seeking skilled workers. The district's unemployment rate stood at 6.6 percent, virtually unchanged from the previous month.
