Over 10,000 College Support Staff in Ontario Ratify New Three-Year Contract

Over 10,000 college support staff in Ontario, represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), have overwhelmingly approved a new three-year news contract. The ratification follows a nearly five-week strike and a tentative agreement reached last month with the College Employer Council.

The new collective news, ratified by 89% of the membership in a vote that saw over 75% participation, brings significant improvements. It includes increased on-call rates and shift premiums, wage hikes, enhanced severance packages, and bolstered job security. The news marks an end to a strike that disrupted in-person classes and activities on campuses like Mohawk College and St. Clair College, where striking staff held rallies.

The new news will now be in effect for the next three years, providing increased benefits and job security for over 10,000 college support staff in Ontario. The ratification brings closure to the strike and allows for the resumption of normal operations on college campuses.
