Over 100 Religious Leaders Gather in Yekaterinburg for Interfaith Dialogue Conference
Over a hundred religious leaders, theologians, regional government officials, and representatives of Russia’s traditional faiths are gathered in Yekaterinburg for the Fourth Interregional Academic Conference on 'Interfaith Dialogue in the Urals'. The conference aims to foster interfaith cooperation, strengthen spiritual unity, and cultivate mutual understanding among followers of different religions in the Sverdlovsk Region.
The conference, held under the theme of 'Interfaith Dialogue in the Urals', is discussing key topics such as maintaining stability in interethnic and interfaith relations. On the first day, participants discussed the region’s religious landscape, spiritual values, confessional boundaries, and the theological and cultural foundations of interfaith dialogue in contemporary Russia. The Sverdlovsk Region, home to over 120 nationalities and 19 faith traditions, is one of Russia’s most ethnically and religiously diverse regions.
A special session titled 'School for Imams' was held to enhance theological training and coordinate the educational work of religious leaders. Deputy Governor Vasily Kozlov opened the conference on behalf of Sverdlovsk Region Governor Denis Pasler. Kozlov emphasized the importance of interfaith dialogue in today's world and the unique platform the Urals provides for cooperation and harmony.
The conference is expected to foster greater understanding and cooperation among the diverse religious communities in the Sverdlovsk Region. The 'Interfaith Anti-Extremism Task Force' initiative, while not explicitly mentioned in the conference, is an example of the region's commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue and preventing extremism. The conference is a step towards strengthening the spiritual unity and mutual understanding among the followers of different religions in the region.
