Over €3M Spent on Syrians' Returns; 20,010 New Asylum Applications in 2025
By the end of August 2025, over €3 million was provided for returns, with 1,872 Syrians departing through the REAG/GARP program. Despite Bashar al-Assad's fall in December 2024, only 4,633 Syrians left Germany. Meanwhile, 20,010 new asylum applications were filed in 2025.
The REAG/GARP program facilitated the return of 1,872 Syrians by August 2025, with no deportations taking place during this period. This figure includes 289 who returned with local program subsidies. Notably, 55 Syrians classified as Islamic extremists were present in Germany in 2025.
In total, over 951,000 Syrians remained in Germany by the end of August 2025. In contrast, 83,185 Syrians were naturalized in Germany in 2024. Since the beginning of 2025, 20,010 Syrians have filed asylum applications.
The Syrian population in Germany continues to evolve, with returns facilitated by the REAG/GARP program and naturalizations occurring. Despite political changes in Syria, the majority of Syrians remain in Germany, with new asylum applications ongoing.
