Oxford Brookes students triumph at global legal consultation contest
Oxford Brookes University students have won this year's International Client Consultation Competition. Their victory was marked by the presentation of a newly named trophy—the Sir Geoffrey Bindman KC award. The event highlights the importance of practical legal skills in education.
The competition focuses on improving law students' interviewing and counselling abilities. It provides a platform for developing essential soft skills in a realistic setting. This year's winners were recognised for their outstanding performance in client consultations.
Paul O'Neill, CEO of Bindmans, attended the final to present the awards. He was invited by Dr Matthew Parry, the competition's co-chair, to honour the winners and speak about Sir Geoffrey Bindman's legacy. The trophy now bears Bindman's name in recognition of his contributions to the event and its organising body.
During the ceremony, O'Neill also awarded the Robson-Price prize. This special award went to the team that demonstrated exceptional client relationship skills. While there, he met with other co-chairs and the vice-president of the competition.
The newly named Sir Geoffrey Bindman KC trophy was presented to the Oxford Brookes University team. The competition continues to offer law students valuable experience in client interaction and professional development. The event reinforces the link between academic training and real-world legal practice.
