Özdemir secures Green Party’s future with 97% backing in Baden-Württemberg

Cem Özdemir, the Green Party's top candidate for Baden-Württemberg's state election, expresses strong backing from his party. He lauds the current Minister-President's 15-year tenure, highlighting the Greens' long-standing leadership in the state.

Özdemir, elected with a resounding 97 percent support, defends Boris Palmer, the former mayor of Tübingen who left the Green Party. He praises Palmer's mayoral success and acknowledges their close consultation on governance and local authorities. Despite Palmer's departure, Özdemir sees a similar relationship between state and federal Green parties as that of the CSU and CDU.

Özdemir, however, regrets Palmer's involvement in 'unnecessary Facebook battles' that damaged his reputation. He doesn't foresee Palmer's return to the Green Party, stating that neither side currently considers it an option. Yet, he respects Palmer's public debate with the AfD's lead candidate, Marcus Frohnmaier, noting Palmer's strong performance.

Cem Özdemir, supported by his party, aims to continue a balanced policy approach that prioritizes ecology, economy, rural needs, and security. While he defends Boris Palmer's record and respects his public debates, he doesn't anticipate Palmer's return to the Green Party.
