Participation desired: Call for ideas for community-oriented projects in Köpenick
A new funding initiative is inviting residents, businesses and local groups to shape the future of Köpenick’s emerging urban district. The scheme, backed by Bürgerstiftung Treptow-Köpenick, will allocate €20,000 in 2026 to support community-led projects around the former freight depot. Ideas must focus on social, cultural or ecological improvements within the designated development zone.
The call for proposals is open to anyone with a stake in the area—whether residents, property owners, associations or local enterprises. Projects must be located in or near the development zone, with each eligible for up to €5,000 in funding. The deadline for initial concept outlines is February 28, 2026, followed by a more detailed submission later.
Shortlisted applicants will present their ideas to the District Advisory Board on April 15, 2026. Funding decisions will prioritise initiatives that engage residents, boost sustainability or strengthen neighbourhood ties. The initiative aims to ensure the new district reflects the needs and creativity of those who live and work there. Bürgerstiftung Treptow-Köpenick, known for supporting local projects with grants and resources, is overseeing the process. While no single organisation is leading the development, the foundation’s role is to channel community input into the area’s transformation.
The €20,000 fund will back a range of small-scale projects, from cultural events to green spaces. Successful applicants will be notified after the April presentations, with work expected to begin shortly after. The initiative marks a step toward integrating local voices into the district’s long-term planning.
