The official call for nominations was published on December 9, 2025. Those wishing to stand must submit their paperwork to Passau City Hall’s Electoral Office by January 8, 2026, at 6:00 PM. The ÖDP and voters' group Aktive Passauer met this deadline early, presenting a shared list of 44 candidates. Their slate includes 20 newcomers without party ties, alongside professionals from fields like nature conservation, forestry, business, healthcare, and culture.
The election timeline is now fixed, with nominations closed by January 8, 2026, and signatures due eleven days later. Passau’s voters will choose their new Lord Mayor and City Council members on March 8, 2026. The ÖDP and Aktive Passauer’s joint list is the first confirmed, featuring a mix of experienced and first-time candidates.
