Passau's mayoral runoff set for March 22 with tight ballot deadlines

Passau will hold a runoff election for mayor on March 22, 2026. The two remaining candidates are Andreas Rother from the SPD and Armin Dickl from the CSU. Voters must take note of key deadlines and rules for both mail-in and in-person ballots.

Voters who already requested runoff ballots in the first round will receive them by post from March 13, 2026. Those who did not apply earlier must submit a new request by March 20, 2026, at 3:00 PM. Applications can be made in person at the Citizen Service Offices.

Mail-in ballots must reach City Hall by 6:00 PM on election day to be counted. Any ballots delivered by Deutsche Post on March 22 will not be accepted, even if postmarked earlier. For in-person voting, polling stations will be open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on March 22. Voters must bring a valid ID card or passport. No new voter notification cards will be sent out for the runoff.

The runoff election will decide between Rother and Dickl. Voters have until March 20 to request absentee ballots, while in-person voting remains an option on election day. All mail-in votes must arrive at City Hall by the 6:00 PM deadline.
