Penang braces for floods with emergency response team in place

Penang has activated a specialised multi-agency response team to monitor 20 flood-prone areas across the state. The move follows a warning from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) about potential flooding between November 19 and 20. Authorities are preparing for quick action if heavy rains trigger flooding in high-risk zones.

The state government has set up temporary evacuation centres and operations rooms to ensure residents can be moved quickly if needed. District officers and village heads will keep watch over the 20 identified river basins and other vulnerable locations. Their role is to report any rising water levels or dangerous conditions on the ground.

The response team will operate until November 20, covering the period of highest flood risk. Evacuation centres and operations rooms are ready to support affected communities. Authorities continue to stress the importance of early warnings and quick relocation to keep residents safe.
