Pennsylvania Statehouse Passes Key Bills Despite Budget Absence

The Pennsylvania statehouse has seen a flurry of activity, with several bills passing despite the absence of a budget. Key legislation includes an increase in river pilot fees, a focus on reducing medical waste, and measures to combat bots during major sales events.

The statehouse overwhelmingly supported an increase in river pilot fees, with a vote of 200-3 for a bill introduced by Rep. Frank Farry. Meanwhile, a bipartisan initiative to simplify the Ignition Interlock Law received unanimous support, making breathalyzers mandatory for certain DUI offenders and streamlining the process.

In an effort to reduce medical waste, a bill from Rep. Ben Sanchez ensures patients receive the unused portion of medication received during a procedure. This legislation passed with strong support.

House Bill 1512, aiming to shift toward right-to-repair for electronics and appliances, also received significant backing, passing 110-93. Additionally, a bill requiring private insurance to fully cover recommended vaccines passed 104-99.

To combat the impact of bots on major sales events and concert ticketing, a bill banning 'grinch bots' passed with a vote of 169-34. Another bipartisan bill allows employees working in vehicle sales financing to work remotely due to advancements in secure technology.

These bills, along with others such as Rep. Brian Munroe's bill requiring clear font size in reverse mortgage contracts and Rep. Pat Gallagher's update to insurance laws for colorectal cancer screening age, demonstrate the statehouse's commitment to addressing various issues affecting Pennsylvania residents.
