Penzberg Greens unveil expanded candidate list for 2023 council race
Penzberg’s Green Party has revealed its candidate list for the upcoming town council election. This time, 22 hopefuls will stand—nearly double the 12 who ran in 2020. The party’s new lineup features both experience and fresh faces, with a focus on local transport issues taking centre stage during discussions.
The final list of 24 candidates was approved by 23 out of 24 eligible voters. Kerstin Engel and John-Christian Eilert led the internal vote, each securing 22 of the 23 valid ballots cast. Engel now tops the list, ahead of Wolfgang Schweiger, due to the party’s gender quota rule, which reserves odd-numbered positions for women.
The expanded candidate list signals the Greens’ strongest showing in Penzberg’s recent elections. With traffic and infrastructure at the forefront, the party aims to build on its past council successes. Voting will take place in March 2023, determining whether the increased numbers translate into more seats.
