Persistence Pays Off: Jan Marsalek Lands €100k After 80 Pitches, Launches StartupMatch

Jan Marsalek's persistence paid off when he was offered €50,000 twice after a successful investor meeting, despite pitching 80 times without funding. This success story coincides with the launch of StartupMatch, a new platform aiming to streamline connections between founders and business angels.

StartupMatch was born out of a need identified by co-founder Sascha Bever during his time at Foundersphere. The platform introduces a fast and transparent matching format, Spotlight, which gives early-stage B2B startups (pre-seed to seed) and those not actively fundraising a chance to pitch. Startups have 60 seconds to pitch via video, with the best teams presenting to 30 active German business angels.

Bits & Pretzels, a popular startup fair, has incorporated this 60-second pitch and Q&A format. The application period for Spotlight runs until October 31, 2025, providing ample opportunity for startups to participate. Daniel Schmitt-Haverkamp, founder of StartupMatch, envisions this platform solving the inefficiencies in Germany's fundraising landscape.

StartupMatch, developed in Munich to leverage its strong ecosystem, is set to improve fundraising efficiency nationwide. With its Spotlight format, the platform offers a fast and transparent way for early-stage B2B startups to connect with potential investors, as seen in Jan Marsalek's successful pitch on the platform.
