Peter Kwon ends King County Council bid but stays committed to South King County

Peter Kwon, a well-known figure in South King County politics, has concluded his campaign for King County Council District 5. The SeaTac City Council member thanked supporters and volunteers for their contributions, despite not securing the seat in the recent election.

Kwon, who previously announced his bid for the council position, lost to Steffanie Fain by a margin of 4,310 votes or 10.33 percent. Throughout his campaign, Kwon emphasized the importance of giving South King County residents a voice and addressing their priorities. His platform focused on improving safety, supporting small businesses, and promoting responsive government in the region.

King County Council District 5 encompasses SeaTac, Kent, Des Moines, Tukwila, Normandy Park, parts of Renton, and nearby unincorporated areas. Kwon's commitment to these communities remains steadfast, as he expressed gratitude for the community engagement and relationships built during his campaign.

Although Kwon did not secure the King County Council seat, his dedication to South King County is evident. He continues to serve as a SeaTac City Council member, with his term set to expire in December 2027. Residents can look forward to his continued involvement in local politics and community affairs. Additionally, voters can hear from candidates, including Kwon, at the upcoming community forum featuring King County Executive and Council candidates on Oct. 24, 2025, at Highline College.
