Türmer remains head of Jusos - Philipp Türmer re-elected as Jusos leader with overwhelming support
Philipp Türmer has been re-elected as leader of the Jusos, the youth wing of Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD). The 29-year-old secured 66.7 percent of the vote at the federal congress in Mannheim on Friday. His passionate speech on social justice earned him long applause from delegates. Türmer has led the Jusos for the past two years. This time, he ran unopposed and won another term with strong support. His re-election came after he joined an SPD membership petition against planned cuts to Bürgergeld (citizen’s allowance) benefits. With his re-election, Türmer remains a prominent voice on the left of the SPD. His calls for stronger action on wealth distribution and social justice will likely shape debates within the party. The Jusos under his leadership continue to push for bolder policies on economic fairness.
