Philippine e-commerce sellers push for voluntary Trustmark in DTI talks

A group of online sellers has backed the E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark registration but called for key changes. During a zoom meeting with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) officials last week, they pushed for the scheme to remain voluntary. The discussions took place on 17 November 2025, with both sides exploring ways to improve the system for small businesses.

The group argued that the current registration process overlaps with existing consumer laws and product standards. They urged the DTI to keep the Trustmark optional rather than forcing teams to enforce it. Officials from the department listened and agreed to adopt several of the group’s proposals.

The zoom meeting ended with the DTI adopting the group’s suggestions, ensuring the Trustmark stays voluntary and private-sector-driven. Scams in online selling will now be addressed under separate measures. The group’s commitment to further discussions aims to create a balanced system for all digital traders.
