Philippine police dismantle illegal online gambling ring in Cebu City
Philippine authorities have shut down an illegal online gambling operation in Cebu City. The raid, conducted by the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group, led to the arrest of four South Korean nationals. Reports from local residents had earlier flagged suspicious activities in the area.
The operation took place after concerned citizens alerted police about possible online gambling in the neighbourhood. Officers raided several condominium units where the group was allegedly running the illegal business. Gambling equipment and digital records were seized during the operation.
The four suspects, identified by their surnames as Song, Kung, Yun, and Lun, now face criminal charges. They are accused of violating Republic Act No. 9287, which regulates illegal gambling, and Republic Act No. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act. Authorities are also examining the suspects' immigration status as part of the ongoing investigation.
The arrested individuals remain in custody while legal proceedings continue. The seized evidence will be used to support the criminal complaints filed against them. This case highlights the government's efforts to crack down on unlicensed online gambling operations in the country.
