Philippsthal and Vacha unite to honor the 36th anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s fall

On November 9, 2025, the municipalities of Philippsthal and Vacha came together to honor the 36th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The event, held in the courtyard of Philippsthal Castle, was attended by numerous citizens, eyewitnesses, and representatives, including Hessian Interior Minister Prof. Dr. Roman Poseck and Parliamentary State Secretary Christian Hirte.

The ceremony began with a reflection from the mayors of both towns. Philippsthal's Timo Heusner spoke about the emotional impact of the border opening, reuniting families and neighbors. Vacha's Martin Müller reminded attendees that the fall of the Wall serves as both a warning and a responsibility. The event featured performances by musicians from Vacha Gymnasium and the Hattorf Miners’ Band, adding a touch of festivity to the solemn occasion.

Guest speakers included Hesse’s Minister of the Interior, Prof. Dr. Roman Poseck, and Parliamentary State Secretary Christian Hirte. They joined the mayors in paying tribute to the historic event and its significance. Many attendees shared personal memories and experiences from the time of the Wall's fall, adding a poignant and personal touch to the commemoration. The pastors of both communities addressed the guests, emphasizing the importance of peace and freedom.
