Plane bound for Siberia, operated by Russian airlines, returns due to cabin pressure loss, according to TASS reports

A Russian passenger plane, operated by S7 Airlines, encountered a cabin pressure system issue while en route from Novosibirsk to Sochi and was forced to return to Novosibirsk airport on July 25, 2025. The aircraft, a Boeing 737 manufactured in 2001 with a seating capacity of 176 passengers, emitted an emergency signal and performed large loops to burn off fuel before landing safely.

All 176 passengers on board the aircraft landed safely, and S7 Airlines arranged a replacement aircraft to carry passengers onward to Sochi. The incident is currently being monitored by the Western Siberian Transport Prosecutor's office and remains under investigation.

It is worth noting that this incident occurred just a day after a fatal An-24 crash in Russia's far east, which has raised concerns about aircraft safety and aging fleets in the region.

However, no mechanical fault details have been publicly confirmed beyond the cabin pressure control system check. The aircraft was returned as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety. It is important to clarify that the report was not published by TASS or a Telegram channel named SHOT, despite some misinformation to the contrary.

The location of the crash was the Amur region in Russia, but the exact cause of the incident remains unknown at this time. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected by this incident.
