Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner met a tragic fate on June 12, 2025, plunging to the ground shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. The incident left at least 38 people dead, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members aboard. One passenger miraculously survived the catastrophic event.

As investigators search for answers, they've turned their attention to the plane's black boxes and are working tirelessly to retrieve valuable data. Interestingly, Air India reported no issues with the jet before the disaster. The aircraft underwent its last major check in June 2023, while its engines were overhauled and inspected in March 2025 and April 2025, respectively.

Preliminary reports suggest that the emergency power system activated before the crash, hinting at a severe in-flight electrical or engine problem [1]. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated a thorough investigation in collaboration with Boeing's technical experts.

Explosions and thick smoke erupted as the flight struck a residential area, causing casualties on the ground as well. Initial checks since the crash didn't reveal any major safety concerns in Air India's Dreamliners [5]. The aviation investigative unit announced the investigation's progress, stating that key recovery work and evidence collection have been completed, and further analysis is underway.

The London-bound flight carried 169 Indian passengers, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and a Canadian, along with 12 crew members. The pilots leading the ill-fated flight were Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a highly experienced pilot with over 10,000 hours of flying widebody aircraft, and First Officer Clive Kunder, with over 3,400 hours of flying experience [2].

Grieving families are still awaiting the identification of their loved ones, with 210 victims now confirmed through DNA testing, according to state health minister Rushikesh Patel [4]. The crash marked the first fatal accident and hull loss of a 787 Dreamliner since its commercial service began in 2011 [3]. As investigators scramble to unravel the mystery surrounding this tragic event, they hope to provide some closure to the devastated families and prevent future occurrences.
