In a close call at Mexico City International Airport on July 21, 2022, a Delta Air Lines Airbus A320 operating as flight DL590 aborted its takeoff on runway 05R to avoid a collision with an Aeroméxico Connect Embraer E190 that was landing on the same runway.
The Boeing 737-800 plane, carrying 144 passengers, two pilots, and four flight attendants, was initiating its takeoff process for Atlanta when the incident occurred. The Delta pilots detected the aircraft in front during takeoff and executed a rejected takeoff, preventing what could have been a serious accident.
Delta Air Lines confirmed the event, praising its crew for their quick and situationally aware response. The airline stated it was cooperating with aviation authorities, including the Mexican aviation authorities and the Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, in investigating the incident.
Aeromexico is also working closely with authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident. The plane that landed in front, Aeromexico Flight 1631, carried an undisclosed number of passengers, pilots, and flight attendants. Aeromexico did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital, but a spokesperson for the airline stated that the safety of customers and employees is their highest priority.
