PM Chính's ASEAN Summit Meetings Boost Vietnam's Trade Ties
Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính recently attended the 47th ASEAN Summit, where he held productive meetings with several global leaders. He discussed economic cooperation, trade, and bilateral relations with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
In his meeting with Cambodian PM Hun Manet, PM Chính requested continued support for Vietnamese businesses operating in Cambodia. He also congratulated Cambodia on its recent achievements and the signing of a peace agreement with Thailand.
With Canadian PM Mark Carney, the two leaders agreed to enhance their relationship through high-level activities. They also discussed ways to boost bilateral trade, including facilitating investments and opening markets for agricultural products. Notably, they agreed to promote the early launch of negotiations on a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Vietnam and MERCOSUR. PM Chính also proposed increased cooperation in areas like aviation, energy, and training of civil nuclear engineering experts.
PM Chính's meeting with Brazilian President Lula da Silva was marked by a shared delight in the strong development of Vietnam-Brazil relations since upgrading to a Strategic Partnership. President Lula expressed his ambition to increase bilateral trade turnover to $15 billion by 2030.
PM Chính's meetings at the ASEAN Summit have paved the way for enhanced economic cooperation and trade between Vietnam and its counterparts. The agreements and proposals discussed aim to strengthen bilateral relations and boost trade turnover in the coming years.
