PM Modi Hails ASEAN as 'Main Pillar' of India's Act East Policy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as the 'main pillar' of India's 'Act East Policy'. He emphasized this during the 22nd ASEAN-India Summit, where he also welcomed Timor-Leste as the newest member of ASEAN.

PM Modi underscored the importance of India and ASEAN's cooperation in various fields. These include disaster response, maritime security, and the 'blue economy'. Together, they represent one-fourth of the global population and share deep historic relations and shared values. The 'India-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership', involving India and the 11 ASEAN member countries, has continued to grow despite global uncertainties.

Modi also expressed India's support for ASEAN centrality and its outlook on the 'Indo-Pacific'. He reflected on joint priorities with ASEAN in 'digital inclusion', 'food security', and 'resilient supply chains'.

PM Modi's remarks highlight India's commitment to strengthening ties with ASEAN. The partnership, now expanded to include Timor-Leste, is expected to further boost cooperation in areas crucial to both regions' development and security.
